Made Out Of Babies, Taint - One hell of a live band

Last time Made Out Of Babies were in Europe, I had to miss out on them. Luckily they recently released a new album and supported that album with a short European tour. This band has a unique sound, like no other band around. Unfortunately this band has lots of attention by narrow minded people, because of their vocalist Julie Christmas. But hey, she is something else!
Taint
These Welshmen had the honour to open up the night. Last year they already had the honour to play at the pre-heat of the prestigious Roadburn festival. Unfortunately they had serious problems with the guitar equipment this night. Therefore the show started off kind of slow. After they managed to fix the problems, the show carried on. The reactions of the audience were very lame, to the utter frustrations of their singer. He literally was begging for some feedback of the crowd. Musically this band can be described as a sludge/post-hardcore band. A lot of people compare them to bands like Mastodon and High On Fire, but frankly I don’t hear that in their sound. They lack the power of the above mentioned bands and their sound is noisier than those bands. I think a sludge version of Unsane is a more suitable description for them. Most of the songs they played were from their last album Secrets And Lies. A decent show, but when they are able to create the same power as a band like High On Fire, then this band will raise some fists! (RoyBalowski)
Made Out Of Babies
After the release of their new record entitled The Ruiner, Made Out Of Babies embarked on a European tour to promote it. The band started their set in a mediocre filled Batcave, playing a lot of songs from their second and their latest record. Personally I think you really need to see this band live to judge whether you like them or not. This is mainly caused by vocalist Julie Christmas. This woman already sounds paranoid and insane on record, but live you can really see how devoted she sings her lyrics. Most of the times her eyes are closed and she runs around on stage like she’s on fire. A display of total despair and paranoia is what she offers the viewers, with a good dose of headbanging and screaming, while also handling some effects and samples. This woman is all over the music. The music itself sounded very nice this evening, the band plays a great combination of effect-filled rock and metal which can both be relaxing as well as paranoia-enhancing. Made Out Of Babies again proved to me that they’re one hell of a live band; make sure to catch them when you can! (DemonDust)
