Genghis Tron - Two free beers
Bad news, I hate bad news. Especially when you’ve made a trip half around the globe, slayed an entire army of man eating ants to finally hear at the venue that the number one band you came for didn’t make it. Apparently Behold…the Arctopus’ transportation didn’t make it through the Nordic blizzard, so we were welcomed with two free beers to soften the pain. Kind, but not sufficient. Well let's see what main act Genghis Tron holds for us then.
Genghis Tron would also be a band worth overcoming all the hazards found underway, I thought in advance. Genghis, a Relapse band, has a progressive mind and then I don’t mean in a Dream Theater-bullshit way. With just one guitarist, a singer and a keyboard player, who also takes care of the programmed drums, they shift from blasting grindcore to ambient and mainly electronic driven music. Add up a really cool customised lightshow and you’ll get an idea of what’s going on. It might sound interesting, but fact is that without the lightshow there would be little left. We, as experienced metal examiners, of course immediately see through this. The biggest problem is with the programmed drums. I either want to see a live drummer or I want the drums to sound so absurd and non-human that I don’t constantly question where the drummer’s at. Well, the songwriting is still very okay and in the end it was cool to see this experimental band live once. Oh, and I really enjoyed my two free beers, and some more.
