P. Paul Fenech - The "F" Word
I’ve never heard of him! But that doesn’t mean that he hasn’t been the frontman of the for some legendary Meteors. Never heard of them either! What’s interesting is the fact that he has just released his sixth solo-outing of psychobilly. Which just happens to be a style I seem to be evolving a taste for. And his bio says this album works for anyone just getting into it! What luck!
Well, I believe that psychobilly is comprised of rock ‘n roll, surfrock, country and perhaps a little punk. Thrown together they form a sleazy pile of psychedelic broken dreams, to say it poetically. Add vocals that sound just like a Guy Ritchie movie character and lyrics that occasionally imply he has ‘a .22 stuffed in his sock, a face full of speed and a nine inch cock’ and you’ve got yourself quite an adventure.

I’m getting all kinds of different emotions while listening to The “F” Word, varying from relaxing, to acting all tough guy. I can literally imagine barfights, nude-beaches, desert trips and shoot-outs in my head. The point is that there is never a real dominant style. One song has a lot of surfrock, the other rock ‘n roll, and the next country. Loving it!
The album features a whole variety of recording qualities, as well as additional musicians. There are even female vocals, even a child screaming ‘Fuck you Fenech!’ which is kind of funny. I must say that I must have listened to this record for like ten times now, and it still pleases me quite a lot. I’ll definitely consider checking P. Paul Fenech out when he comes to visit our country the 20th and 21st of October. You want psychobilly, you get The “F” Word”!
