Entwine - Fatal Desing
Although Entwine has been around quite a while (this is already their fifth album) I still consider them to be a pretty new band. Maybe that’s because the sound is pretty much of a modern rock band. In this way, fans of Evanescence and Papa Roach will be pleased these days, having a lot of releases to look forward to. Entwine perfectly fits in.

Although I’ve just mentioned two other bands, I think Entwine can be compared best with Linkin Park, probably due to the big influences of the keyboards and the characteristics of Mika’s voice. The emphasis lies clearly on the heavy guitar riffs but the band uses the keyboards again to bring in another dimension that is very recognizable these days. An (easy) combination between ‘Bring me to Life’ and ‘Numb’ results in the hit ‘Break Me’ and even the final track 'Curtained Life' could well be influenced by HIM.

Still, mainly comparing the band with others would be a shame. Therefore the quality of both the production and songwriting has been worked out too well. I personally won’t consider Fatal Design as a highlight of everything that is coming out these days with a catchy touch but the fact is that the disk is very easy to listen to and the songs and patterns are easy to stick in your head. And considering this, and considering the fact that these melodies aren’t that annoying and begging for attention, I’d say Enwtine did a good job.

I’d like to conclude by emphasizing that I personally think the songwriting is a bit cheesy and even a little uninspiring. You know, like the rock songs that enter the music charts. However, if this is the kind of rock that represents heavy music to the public these days, than I won’t complain at all.
