Deadline - Take A Good Look
Anyone who’s ever heard Deadline’s debut album will probably agree with me that the previous record was a blast. The heavy punk songs were totally under control and although punk has been heavier from time to time, Deadline was a pleasant surprise. Of course I have quite some expectations towards this second one.

Well, Take A Good Look is the logical follow-up for Getting Serious on a pretty high level. On a really high level actually. Damn, what a fine piece of punk rock have we got here, again. Literally every song is catchy yet raw, heavy yet reasonable, danceable yet listenable. Most important ingredient is the combination of the power chords and the incredibly nice and soft (yet strong) vocals of Liz Rose while the production is just perfect for this genre.

Just name everything you’d expect and want on a punk album and it’s here, right on Take A Good Look. Opener ‘Blood on Your Hands’ is an up-tempo opener whereas ‘1975’ is a bit more relaxed with a great vocal line. Further highlights for me are the title track and the final song, the über punk-ballad ‘Moving Lines’ which has a little surprise at the end by the way. Liz Rose has used her voice again in a tremendous way while the whole album could be seen as a total picture of what punk music is about.

Actually it is pretty simple; just listen to Deadline if you’re into this kind of music. For me, this album is thé absolute highlight of punk rock this year, together with the latest Anti-Flag record. Hell yeah!!
