HIM - Uneasy Listening Vol. 1
We all know HIM from their sinister yet romantic rock songs. After releasing their fifth studio album Dark Light in 2005 they now came up with two concept compilation albums. Uneasy Listening Vol. 1 just got released on October 30th 2006 and Uneasy Listening Vol. 2 will be released next spring.

Both albums include rarities and hard-to-find versions of HIM’s biggest hits. ‘Fans have frequently asked for older or rare versions of songs. These were hard to find although most of the versions on Uneasy Listening Vol. 1 has been released earlier on singles.’ says Ville Valo, lead singer of HIM.

This first part of the Uneasy Listening session features the sentimental side of the band. Part two will focus on the harder side. That’s why you’ll find “golden oldies” like ‘Join Me In Death’, ‘Close To The Flame’ and ‘In Joy And Sorrow’ on Vol 1.

I think it’s interesting to hear different versions of these songs. In this case it is just too bad that they're not that different. Compared to the originals they distinguish only in remix. And yes, that’s pretty normal indeed. They did a great job on songs like ‘Gone With The Sin’ and ‘The Sacrament’. These are put in a new jacket which makes it refreshing and fun to listen to. But in my opinion more than half of the songs on Vol. 1 are not that rare at all. Most of them sound just like the original. Others are just acoustic versions, live recordings or radio edits.

Now why would a band as big as HIM release two compilation albums in a row? Considering that I think these remixes do not really stand out from the originals. Well, I just let you do the thinking here.
