The trio known as Stinking Lizaveta has already released four albums, and now their fifth dubbed Scream Of The Iron Iconoclast is upon us. Don’t expect your average rock/metal act, because this band has some tricks up its sleeve…

Doom-jazz is the most used term to describe their music I think, but Stinking Lizaveta’s music holds quite a number of styles. On Scream Of The Iron Iconoclast one will find post-rock, jazz, sludge, stoner, metal, doom and progressive music. All this thrown together forms a unique band with a very interesting way of songwriting, and a very diverse and distinct sound. It grooves, in a sophisticated way, but never too complex. The fact that there are no vocals present also gives you more chance to really pay attention to the music. I must say that when I play this record time really flies by, it’s just very smooth and rocking at the same time.

 

So we have this female on drums, and she does an excellent job (something I'm not really used too with women on drums), a guy on contrabass and a bearded monster on guitar. This guitar has an amazing vintage sound that very much reminds me of the sixties, and of Jimi Hendrix in particular, but that might be more the style of playing than the sound of it.

 

Well if you’re into relaxing music, especially jazz and stoner, pick this one up. I for one am sorry I didn’t see them at the Roadburn festival earlier this year. But I hope I get another shot at seeing them in the near future.
