Every Time I Die - The Big Dirty
The first time I saw Every Time I Die onstage was with their tour with Lamb Of God. Back then they didn't make a great impression on me, although I did remember their name. So a couple of months ago when the name Every Time I Die started circling around it gave me a good reason to check out their myspace just to see what they were up to. Just seconds later I found out they would release their new album not much later. Which brings us to The Big Dirty, which is already the fourth full length album of the band.

Starting with 'No Son Of Mine' they don't convince right away. Especially since I reviewed the latest The Devil Wears Prada album which made me a bit sceptic for this type of bands. It was just a bit too simple and mediocre for me. Luckily enough the second song 'Pigs Is Pigs' sounds way better than the first song. Much more mature and enough variety to make it interesting from the beginning till the end.

This is also the tendency within the rest of the album. After a slow start the album is getting better and better. Especially 'Rendez Voodoo' , which has some great tempo changes and even some of the southern groove that was so obviously present with Pantera, is a great song. But this is just an example, there are several great songs on this album that lift the album to a higher level.

Although the first couple of songs on the album didn't convince me right away the rest of the songs made it very clear for me. The band has become much better since that tour with Lamb Of God. Not only are the songs much more mature, but also the combination of styles within the songs is great and is constantly challenging the listener. A great album that could be an important one for this band.
