Hellsongs - Lounge
We’re all familiar with Richard Cheese, the man who plays modern rock/metal/pop songs from a jazzy/lounge perspective. Then there is also Mambo Kurt who represents covers from a mambo perspective. And now there is Hellsongs from Sweden with their first ep so far.
Hellsongs is a band, consisting of three members, including a female singer. All the songs they perform are covers, heavy metal covers that will certainly ring a bell to every fan of heavy music. Just look at the track list of this ep and you will see that you will probably recognize all the songs.
What makes Hellsongs a special cover band is the fact that only the lyrics are recognizable in their original form. The music that is played is mostly loungy, acoustic and its atmosphere could well be compared with the musical guidance from acts like Tori Amos or Björk.
The artwork of Lounge is filled with pictures of a forest and that’s a perfect metaphor for this kind of music. Although the emotions differ from positive to negative, from slow to a little faster and from introvert to extrovert, all the songs are easy to listen to and give you a pleasant feeling without sounding to cheesy. In that perspective, Hellsongs has come up with a nice ep although I doubt whether the attention to this band would have been the same without using these giant metal songs for their musical framework.
