Radiate - Halo EP
Radiate - Halo EP
Radiate are a relatively new band from New York, and they have a sound to them that is actually different then todays crop of new bands.
The first song on the EP, "Halo", made me feel like I rediscovered Nine Inch Nails, with industrial sounding samples, a groovy bassline and a chorus that can be stuck in your head for a few days atleast.
The carefull listener will also hear some percussion as well, which fits well inside the song.
Next on the list is "Perfect", a song in which the vocals remind me a bit of Filter's Richard Patrick, going from melodic to agressive. The guitars are well put as well, no fancy soloing, but supporting and carrying the song where it has too.
"Insect Herd", the last track on the EP, is my favorite. Its intro, slow, with tribal sounding drums and an almost "eastern" influenced guitarline, creating an ambience that only bands like Tool are able to create in my opinion. The song itself, takes time to build up to a heavy end, in which it explodes, and ends the EP.
If this is just a sample of what this band is capable of, then I think everyone should really follow these guys, because this is proof that you dont need heavy downtuned guitars and abused singers to have a great sounding band, that can actually grow into something special.
