Herod - For Whom The Gods Would Destroy
Buffallo NY’s Herod came together in late 2000 when founding members Mike Jeffers and Jesse Benker decided to do a project that was a little more metal than projects they had been involved with in the past: Union, Dead to the World, The Control, Policy187, etc.
Early 2002, Herod released Execution Protocol.
During the summer of 2003, Herod parted ways with their original vocalist, this move paved the way for Judah Nero to enter the fold.
2004, Herod released “For Whom the Gods Would Destroy”, a very nice album with a lot of technical guitar parts and heavy drum works in it.
The vocals are very calm but now and then his voice bursts out, which I really like a lot. This band does remind me of several bands mixed in one, like Pantera, Metallica and some more. The guitar parts are very technical and really awesome on this album, the drums could be some faster and louder but they are cool too.
You can hear on this album that the members are well known with their instruments and that they play them for a long time.
The first track on the album immediately makes a statement for the rest of the album and the band. The song starts with a calm voice and the melody is calm to but after a while everything starts to pound some more, and this will continue the rest of the song.
I have never heard of Herod before but I will keep an eye on them in the future.
If you haven’t heard Herod before, now is the time, if you like Pantera, Metallica, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, than Herod is a band for you. Strap in and hold on tight.
