Rush - Snakes & Arrows Live
Canadian Supertrio Rush used to release live albums after every 4 studio efforts. Since their critically acclaimed comeback album Vapor Trails, a live album and DVD has followed after every tour they did. This release was recorded in the Netherlands. On October 15th and 16th in Rotterdam, Ahoy, during the Snakes & Arrows world tour cameras rolled to make a moving picture there. I actually attended on the first night. And contrary to the R30 tour, this time the entire set has been released, with no omissions.
Even with that in mind, die-hard fans might ask themselves if we need another live album. Well, falling into that category, I can definitely say yes. Being their 7th live album to date, it does add to the collection. Rush changes their set so rigorously, that only a mere 5 songs are similar to the previous live album. Being simply called Snakes & Arrows Live, some songs of that album are more convincing when played live, as The ‘Larger Bowl’ and ‘Malignant Narcissism’ clearly demonstrate. Old favourites as ‘Subdivisions’ and ‘The Spirit of Radio’ sound superb as always. There really isn’t much more to say about this release. It is thrilling, exciting and a culmination of 35 years of experience.
The vibe was great that evening. Even though I wasn’t present during the second night. I’m positive that it was great as well. I already look forward to the upcoming DVD.
