They sure took their time! To be precise, this Finnish band took four years and a new keyboardist to release their new album and fifth full length. Alghazanth started to record their latest album on the 14th of June 2007 and finally Wreath of Thevetat was introduced to the world in 2008.
Melodic black metal is the way to categorize Alghazanth and I absolutely love it! I can’t listen to this album often enough, even though the music isn’t especially unique. The songs are a bit aggressive, but yet create a melancholic atmosphere. Especially ‘Future Made Flesh’ makes it obvious that we’re dealing with a melodic black metal band. It’s no secret that this song is my favourite of the entire album.
The production of the album is excellent. What appeals to me is the acoustic riffs which are combined with the electric riffs every once and a while. I’m a sucker for the acoustic guitar, especially when it gives a dramatic aspect to the entire composition. Another thing that wins me over is the classical element which is taken into account on this album.
The entire album - doesn’t matter if you listen to the drums, the synths, the vocals, the bass or the guitars or all the instruments as a whole - is in perfect balance. Whether you like fast rhythms, slow parts or a combination of both; Alghazanth offers you the whole package. I don’t know what you think about it, but I know for certain I’ll play this album again tomorrow. It’s awesome!
