Gorgoroth - True Norwegian Black Metal
For those of you who haven’t been reading the magazines lately; Gorgoroth is under severe pressure, Ghaal and King have chosen to no longer cooperate with Infernus and now we even have a court case. On the one hand, Ghaal and King argue to have Infernus kicked out of the band while on the other hand Infernus states that he is the only original band member left and thus is the only one to claim the rights. This CD states from the 2007 period when they were actually still together as a triforce, recording live at the Grieghallen.

So far of the story of the hiatus, because in the end, we’re here to discuss some musical disks aren’t we? Well, maybe not, because the question that comes into my mind is this: ‘Why the hell does a band want to record merely old songs in a live setting, without an audience and without any new sounds on it?’ Sure, the material is high of quality with a sharp and squeezy sound which is in my humble opinion the only way to make black metal sound interesting and unique. Yet, because there are only eight songs on the album with a total length of just a little more than half an hour I’d say one should look for the DVD of the Krakow gig back in 2004 where you can really feel the anxiety and controversy Gorgoroth is famous for these days.

And which of the two sides will eventually end up with the rights of the bands’ name? We’ll just have to wait and see I guess. Until then, the fact remains that Gorgoroth will still be one hell of a band to both talk about and listen to.
