Symphonity - Voice From The Silence
When you say Olaf Hayer, you say Luca Turilli and Dionysus. This German power metal vocalist has also lent his voice to the Czech band Symphonity, formerly known as Nemesis. Under the name Nemesis, the band released the album Goddess Of Revenge. As Symphonity, the band released their second album in August 2008; Voice From The Silence.

Classical symphonic metal has many faces, one of which many riffs sound catchy and intelligent. Let it be no surprise that Symphonity has that kind of face, and shows a good deal of intelligent musicianship on Voice From The Silence. Classical influences aside, the album also has a progressive touch, like we hear in the ‘Silence’ trilogy.

The band incorporates catchy melodies with classically composed riffs. A substantial element in their music, which, for reference, is very noticeable in ‘Searching You’. To bluntly brand Symphonity ‘power metal’ would degrade the band’s musical skills, but the term does fit the actual sound – mostly due to Hayer’s trademark vocals.

Voice From The Silence diverse in its goods; there’s melody, speed and a bit of challenge with some of the riffs. Although the album has an excellent production and has been mixed by renowed heavy metal producer Sascha Paeth (Kamelot, Rhapsody of Fire, Angra), it does not stand out all the time. That being said: for anyone who wants their power metal with a classical and progressive touch should at least give this album a listen.

On a side note: the ‘Anyplace, Anywhere, Anytime’ cover as a hidden bonus track really kicks ass.
