Buried Inside - Spoils Of Failure
The Canadian sludge postcore band Buried Inside are back with a new record, the follow up to their 2005 Relapse Records debut Chronoclast. It’s their fourth album since their inception in 1997, let’s see what they bring to the table this time.

Compared to their previous album I have the idea that Spoils Of Failure is a bit more toned down, yet it maintains the same harshness and depressive atmosphere. How could it be otherwise with such a depressing album title. Just like the music, the production of the record is harsh and raw, enhancing the overall melancholic feel even more. For some it might be a bit too dim and muddy, but that’s a more personal issue I suppose.

The eight tracks offered on Spoils Of Failure are a nice collection of sludge and postcore, but I don’t really get the feeling these recordings stand up to those of bands like Neurosis, Cult Of Luna and Isis to name a few. Even though the songs are pretty well composed. I do feel that this band will probably have a huge impact on stage, yet that isn’t fully transferred in their recordings. I do recommend fans of the bands mentioned above to give these guys a try though.
