The Creepshow - Sell Your Soul
Ever since I listened to the Run For Your Life album of The Creepshow that was released last year, I’d still wish I had known this band before. They combine the rockabilly sound of the fifties with some melodic punkrock, which is seeded with horrorlike lyrics. Well I guess People Like You did hear my prayers since they’ve re-released the debut album Sell Your Soul of these Canadian horror rockers.

The album starts with an intro, called ´The Sermon´, which builds up the tension that explodes right in your face with ´Creatures Of The Night´. The mix of the described styles is again perfect and also the production is a big plus. Especially since they’ve got the slapping bass exactly right in the background. It really gives me goose bumps from time to time. Add to this the great, sometimes sexy vocals of Sarah Sin and you instantly know this is a masterpiece.

Well, aren’t there any weaknesses on this album? Of course there are! ´Sell Your Soul´ isn’t really great. You could consider ´Cherry Hill´ too poppy and ´Candy Kiss´ reminds me too much of its predecessor ´Cherry Hill´. But when you come to ´Gravediggers’ the pedal goes to the metal again and takes you full throttle through this song. After the rather standard ‘Zombies Ate Her Brain’ The Creepshow show a different side of themselves with ‘The Garden’. With this beautiful acoustic song they made my jaw drop to the floor. After this ‘Doghouse’ comes crashing in even harder.

In the end I have to say that there are indeed some lesser tracks on this album but they are compensated by great rocking tracks as ‘Shake’, ´Gravediggers´ and much more. A debut album a lot of bands can only dream of.

PS. This re-release comes with a bonus DVD with live footage of a show in Germany.
