Izah - Finite Horizons/Crevice
Hailing from the hometown of the Roadburn Festival, Izah is a sludge/doom band that has this 2008 demo entitled Finite Horizon/Crevice under their belt. I came across their name a bunch of times before, now let me enlighten you what they sound like.
This demo record features two songs, both of over eleven minutes length. They are a display of dynamic sludge doom, taking in account both the sheer heaviness as well as some melody. Also it features some faster parts next to the usual dragging noise. The overall sound of the band is quite nice and enjoyable, they have a good feel for writing the right riffs and putting them together in the right way. I wish I could say the same for the vocalist, but kind of just fails at about most of his parts. Especially the clean parts are not good at all, he sort of barely makes the notes but sounds like he is searching how to cover it up. Also I am not amazed by his screams and growls, yet these are overshadowed by his other work. Too bad.
Overall this demo record really gives me hope for what is yet to come of these guys. They can set the right atmosphere and play the right riffs. Just add the right vocals and we’re off. Cheers!
