Eternal Tears Of Sorrow - Children Of Dark Waters
For all the people who don’t know these Finnish metallers, a brief introduction. The band was formed in 1994 but before that there was already quite some action between several band members. After some demoing they got signed to X-Treme Records. After their first album it was time for a new record label. Spinefarm Records was the lucky one to enclose Eternal Tears Of Sorrow into their stable. Several years, band members and albums later they decided to split up in 2004. Still there were some unfinished things to take care of so only one year later they came back to finish wat they’ve started. After the comeback they’ve recorded Before The Bleeding Sun and last year they’ve just released their latest effort called Children Of Dark Waters.

Angelheart, Ravenheart’ is the first song on the album and starts just the way a good melodic death metal album should start. After an intro that builds up some tension the music comes crashing in with a powerful crystal clear bombastic sound. I have to admit that I have to give credits to Mikko Karmila and Mika Jussila for creating such a great sound on the album. On the other hand they’ve worked with Children Of Bodom and Nightwish and probably know what they are doing. ‘Angelheart, Ravenheart’ is full of power and black metal influences and this mixture creates the perfect atmosphere for both the following song ‘Baptized By The Blood Of Angels’ and the rest of the album.

With ‘Sea Of Whispers’ there’s a nice peaceful moment on the album but to be honest it’s probably also the weakest song on the album. It never sounds really exciting and after a minute or so I’m starting to lose my attention. After this my attention is brutally pulled back by the heavily on Dimmu Borgir inspired ‘Midnight Birds’. After this there’s still more where that came from. The rest of the album is filled with great songs that consist of powerful pushing guitar riffs that are backed by great keyboard parts. Truly a great album that is rather interesting for fans of Kalmah and Mors Principium Est.
