Pain Confessor - Fall on Evil Days
After the Finnish Metal Meeting there were a few things certain, it would take ages to get to know the scene quite well, the quality of the bands is pretty high and I had to make a review of ‘Fall on Evil Days, the single from Pain Confessor.
Their performance was not that impressive in my opinion, but this single changes my mind a little bit. Again, I sense a heavy rock/metalcore band with keyboards where the samples play an important role, more than I’m used to in this scene, but not in a bad way. The guitars play heavy riffs, leaving a nice opportunity for melodious vocal lines. Unfortunately, these vocals seem to be a little bit forced now and then, especially when grunting, but that does not harm the song too much. This whole sound could be compared to Chimaira but without the complexity and variation in double bass. Therefore, the sound is easier and I could recall the song very fast.
There is also a video of ‘Lake of Regret’ which shows an almost hardcore side of the band, since it is a very fast and hard song. Actually, as a result of this I’m a little confused about the direction Pain Confessor wants to go. It seems to me that the harder they play, the better they do. Let’s hope they’d consider that when the band recorded their full-length album.
