Torture - Storm Alert
Not many band stories really touch me. Although I have nothing but respect for the courage and perseverance for the pre-release time, they’re almost always the same. Now, here is Torture, founded in 1986 with an album release in 1989. Unfortunately, the band split up after their last show with Sepultura and Obituary but in 2004 the band with Mexican roots came together and play the songs they once loved so much. These songs come from an album called ‘Storm Alert’ which has been remixed and all, ready to ‘tie you to your chair and force you to headbang or else. Or else what? Exactly!

And a special album it is, in a way. Just do three things. First, take a look at the length of the songs. Secondly, think about the time in which this album was actually recorded. Notice anything? At that time………indeed. And finally, do some neck-exercise. What you do not want to do is take a look at the lyrics, look for some nice pure vocals and get annoyed by some ‘funny’ mistakes (like children singing ‘let’s go for a slay ride in a Sesame Street tune)
If you do those (pretty simple) things; then my friend you’re able to enter the 11-song lasting ride that’s called heavy fucking metal. My god, what an incredible bunch of riffs.

Every single song is so filled with them that you cannot do anything else than be impressed. Whether it’s the lasting ‘Dwell Into Surreality’ the already mentioned, very varying ‘Slay Ride’ or the incredibly fast ‘Whips Pt I’, Torture makes you feel embarrassed for not having long hair to bang your had, for not having a big belly to scare people and for not drinking beer every day. This music is not for you, fucking pussy, this is for real men.

Music wise, there is not a single note I dislike. Imagine everything you want to hear in a thrash album and it’s there, even some acoustic parts which remind you of the best Metallica times just fit in the songs. But of course, that’s not all that’s necessary in making a really good album. The vocals really need to improve and to finish it all, the lyrics must become better as well. But then, my friends, maybe Torture has had some practice moments between 1989 and 2004 and maybe they’ve improved in these ways. If so, and if they’ll be able to release an album with such incredible overwhelming musical material as this, then we’re going to hear a lot more of them. Forget all those nu-metal and metalcore bands you hear of these days. Torture will hunt you and find you and when that’s done, they will eat you, they will shoot you and yes, torture you alive. And you’re going to take it. Like a man! Oh yes!!
