Ill Niño, Magnacult, Freud - Chocomel, chocomel chocomel!!!
It has been a while since I had seen Ill Nino on stage. As a matter of fact it was probably on the Confession tour that these latin rockers entertained me the last time. To be honest I’m not quite a fan of their latest two albums because I still have the idea they're still doing the same thing as on the first album. On the other hand who am I to question Ill Nino that has rocked over the entire world and tonight will rock the city of Eindhoven.
Since some of my friends picked me up very early in the evening, the venue was still closed when we arrived. That gave me enough time to rob my bank account so we could drink some beer. After a while we finally entered the venue and it was time for the first support act of that night. Freud from the city of Tilburg had the honour of starting the night. From the first tones I noticed the band had made a big step forward since I saw them for the first time about 2 years ago. The band played very tight and the audience loved it. The only thing the band lacks is interaction with the crowd. Hey you’re a heavy metal vocalist it’s your job to encourage the audience in starting a pit.
The second support act of that night was Magnacult. Another Dutch band that has recently released a great debut album. From the first tones the shit hits the fan and the crowd went berserk. Their vocalist knows exactly how to interact with the crowd and pushes them to another level that finally results in a huge circle pit. It’s pretty clear that this is one hell of a band that knows how to handle a crowd and they convinced me to visit a show when they’re headlining one.
Well after this it was back to the bar to get some of the hard needed refreshments and wait for the main act to begin. I noticed that a lot of people around me weren’t quite the people you’d expect on a metal show. But of course as open minded as metalheads are we all accepted it so we could smash some skulls in the uncoming pit. After some beers the wait was finally over and the introtape started. Of course the venue literally exploded when they kicked in with ‘If You Still Hate Me’ followed by some other songs from their well known debut album. With this start it had to be an easy night for Ill Nino and the fans did probably everything that Christian Machado told them to do. Something that finally resulted in a entire crowd shouting Chocomel (which is a famous Dutch chocolate milk). Christian told us it was probably the best thing we have in Holland. Next to the weed of course (which he also mentioned).
Well after a couple more songs the band left the stage to return with an encore. Filled with pieces of Slayer, Sepultura and Iron Maiden the band showed they were up to some fun but Christian didn’t tag along which was a slight disappoint for me on a great night.
