Dream Evil - United
Anyone who has not read The Book of Heavy Metal yet should be ashamed. Dream Evil came up with an album so full of (incredibly cool) clichés that stunned the world of heavy metal music. Unfortunately, the band was struggling afterwards and rumors about a quit were often seen in the message board on the web. However, here is the follow-up of that brilliant record, called United, proving that the band is alive.

Fire! Battle! In Metal! Aaaahhh!!! Hell yeah, Dream Evil is back and the band is not afraid to come up with a new album of which the sound is a real blast. There haven’t been many changes in the sound of the band, which can be seen in both a positive and a negative way.

I think it is a positive thing. Opener ‘Fire! Battle! In Metal!’ is a brilliant over-the-top song, absolutely powerful and easy to listen. Title track ‘United’ shows a creative way of songwriting with a very interesting vocal line in the chorus, performed by a great Niklas by the way. After that, the songs are all of a decent quality but the real overwhelming feeling does not come back on the entire disk. A song like ‘Evilution’ really is ‘over over-the-top’ with the insane high screams, whereas ‘Higher on Fire’ on its turn is a potential classes, mainly due to the, again, great chorus.

Fans of the band can be happy. Dream Evil did a more than decent job on United although it doesn’t come even close to the Holy Book. Maybe the best example of that is the cover song ‘My Number One’ which did a good job on the Eurovision song festival, but is doomed to fail as a serious heavy metal song. Luckily enough, Dream Evil is not the most serious band in the world and is just into melodic, fast and absolutely fucking heavy Meeetaaaaaaaaaal!!!
