Deeds Of Flesh - Reduced To Ashes
If there is a band in the US death metal scene that has drawn my attention for some time now, it has to be Deeds Of Flesh, and because they have released their new album Reduced To Ashes, Metalrage thought it was time for a review of it. Deeds Of Flesh have the reputation of delivering records with enormous lengths like 30 minutes or less. I was a bit astonished when I saw the total playing time was 46 minutes. The first track is the title track of the album Reduced To Ashes, which begins with a little faint intro from a passage in the bible and then kicks in nicely with brutal mauling and Deeds Of Flesh is doing exactly what they are good for. When the album continues with Infested Beneath The Earth I sense nothing different from the first track, but yeah, no problem it still pounds! The changing voices of both vocalists are strong and the production of the album is nice and brutal. It does sound a bit unprofessional, but I truly cannot say anything else of the album, as the following tracks do sound the same as everything else from Deeds Of Flesh, its a good record though, but I just would like a little more creativity. Songs like Human Trophies and Avowed Depraved are just earpounders, just as the rest of the tracks. However I noticed that the final track The Endurance just wouldnt stop. When I looked at the time I saw the song was already playing for 9 minutes, and continued to the 11 minutes. Wow, how is that possible, Deeds Of Flesh playing for 11 minutes and only doing 1 song? They arent Opeth, and Opeth knows how to entertain their fans for 11 minutes with groundbreaking music, but Deeds Of Flesh, well, I listened the complete track, but after a time my eyes began to close. If you dont care about originality and like listening to 8 tracks which dont differ that much, well go ahead and buy this, you wont be disappointed. However, I expected a lot from this record, and really was eager to listen it when I finally had it. But somehow Im disappointed with this. If I must choose between Deeds Of Fleshs new album or Heretic from Morbid Angel, my choice would be simple. The album is fine though and when Im in the right mood itll be even better.
