The Idoru - Monologue
The Idoru is a Hungarian (pop) rock band that has already released two EPs and one full length album in the last four years. And hailing from a country like Hungary it is hard to get your music to the rest of Europe and even harder to get the word around the world. Luckily almost every Hungarian band plays the annual Sziget festival in Budapest which attract over 500.000 visitors. Besides that they got a great initiative over there called Budapest Rock And Roll which helps local bands release their music, get in contact with the right people and play in as many places as possible.

The Idoru has released their second full length entitled Monologue last February, and once again the band proves they are a productive band which creates high quality songs. Amazing bass lines on ‘Refused Day By Day’, great guitar riffs on almost every song and a vocalist with great potential. And their first single coming of this album, ‘Monochrome', is definitively one of the best songs on this album.

I have been following this band since their first full length and I miss the aggression they had on their previous album, awesome guitar parts are the thing on that album I enjoyed the most. But listening to Monologue I see an improved and grown band compared to their previous full length effort Brand New Way, Brand New Situation. They are moving towards the main stream industry but still keep the rough edges in their music.

It is a pity the album is this short and contains only 10 tracks. Besides that English is still a problem for front man Andras. I would have loved to hear a couple of tracks of the last EP ‘Hopeless Illusions’ on this disc. This doesn’t mean it is a bad album, it is a great album with minors. I think this is one of the Hungarian bands I know that's got potential in the rest of Europe. Now they just have to go out and play their music somewhere else than just on Sziget and Hungary.
