Deranged - The Redlight Murder Case
I’d never heard any music of Deranged before I received the promo of their latest record, The Redlight Murder Case. Having already six full-lengths under their belt, I wonder if I missed something during the last years.

That last question is of course hard to answer not being able to hear that stuff, but if it’s in the same range of The Redlight Murder Case, it surely would be worth the try. Recorded in Berno Studio, the band (and the producers) succeeded in creating an album in which the mixing has been done great. All the instruments sound fairly balanced and make it sound very natural and grooving.

Judging by the originality-rate, this album won’t score high. Everything has been done before, but that doesn’t really matter in my opinion. Deranged, formed in 1991, disseminates the characteristic Swedish brutal death metal sound and they do it with great conviction. The Redlight Murder Case however doesn’t feature any outstanding tracks. Singer Martin Schönherr, who replaced the departed ex-vocalist/bassist Calle Fäldt, has a pretty standard death metal grunt that doesn’t grab the attention, but that is okay since it fits perfectly in the mix. Johan Axelsson’s guitar riffs and solos aren’t notable either, but are very reliable. Together with the bashing bass- and drum sound and the experience that these guys have, they managed to do some killer song writing.

The result is a pure death metal record that has to be heard by any death metal fan. Fans of their former work can’t be disappointed, while people like me who didn’t know Deranged in advance will be pleased as well. I at least know what to do know; check out their previous records!
