Architects - Ruin
UK’s Architects released their second album in 2007 already, and it took only a little while for Century Media to pick them up and release the record worldwide. As the band should now be working on their next effort, we talk about Ruin.

Architects is a mathcore band with a lot of metal and hardcore elements. The sound of the band reminds me a lot of The Red Chord, and on a lesser scale, War From A Harlots Mouth and a tiny bit of Converge. Honestly I have to say that Architects is not at the same level some of the aforementioned bands are at, yet Ruin seems to be a good step in that direction.

The monotonous hardcore vocals start to annoy after a little while, although they do fit the music. The band holds a good balance between the highly technical stuff, bashing metal and aggressive hardcore passages. The dynamics and variation in the music is well in order one can say. It’s just that I miss a little punch on this record. I’d like it to slap in my face just a bit harder.

Overall it is obvious we’re dealing with a bunch of talented musicians that have delivered a decent record. And with a record deal in the pocket and a third record coming up, things are looking bright for these Architects. Let’s see what they design next.
