Silverstein - Discovering The Waterfront
Silverstein formed in Burlington, Ontario, on the outskirts of Toronto in 2000. Emerging from the thriving hardcore scene in their hometown, the band began honing their sound and recording whenever possible. Two EPs followed and a former band member began talking the band up to his friends at Victory Records. The band signed with Victory shortly afterwards. And despite an almost constant touring schedule, Silverstein continued to write, drawing from their own experiences as well as the world around them.

And here they are, with an album full of passion, lots of clean vocals (duh! It’s still emo..) and incredibly catchy songs! At first I only wanted to deny the fact that emo could make me move. Though, this album shows the opposite. Silverstein seems to be such a tight playing band, that in every song they’ve added pieces of which I cannot do anything else then appreciate them. In every song there’s this catchy melodic pieces, sing-along parts or whatever you hear, which just makes me move. I’m impressed by this band, that’s for sure!

Though, it doesn’t matter how good this band is to me, it’s still the typical emo sound, we’re all used to. Another minor point of this album is the fact that the longer the album lasts, the more boring the songs get. Ok, I gotta admit it, I’ve had worse! And that makes me giving this score to Silverstein, an emo band that belongs to the bests of their genre. At least the band convinced me to visit them on one of their Dutch gigs coming October, which can only considered to be a positive thing of course!

I can definitely understand that this band is such a loved one in their genre. (If I may believe their bio, ‘cause I actually never heard of this band before I got this album.) I think this will be great buy for all the emo-fans out there!

Catch Silverstein on tour in the UK, Germany or the Netherlands soon. Check out their official website for dates, venues and other details.
