Thunderbolt - Love & Destruction
The guys from Thunderbolt have made quite some progress throughout their (still) young career. The first record ‘Demons & Diamonds’ was already a nice album with a lot of positive comments and now the second full-length is out, having allowed the band to tour with one of the greatest entertainers in metal history, King Diamond.

For those of you who are not familiar with the music. Think of a classic approach to heavy music, with the most logical line-up possible; two guitar players, a bass player, a drummer and a singer. The music lies somewhere in between the melodic aspects of the epical structures of progressive music, yet the choruses are as powerful as bands like Evergrey and Saxon, creating a recognizable sound.

The new album then; the band seemed to focus mainly on a decent follow-up for the first record. The opener ‘Heavy Metal Thunder’ (the name says it all) is a logical opening song where the band shows their capabilities without going ‘over the top’. Yet, the real treat for classical heavy metal fans comes a little bit further, especially when ‘Hi-Fidelity Heartbreak’ sets in with a massive singing Tony Johannessen and a great guitar solo. After this song, the band seems to be in some kind of a trance, because ‘Metallic Depression’, with its high quality of sensitivity and ‘Call out the Lions’, a real enthusiasm creating song, show that Thunderbolt is definitely a band to stay.

This album may be ‘one of those old-rocker things’ for the new generation, but Thunderbolt managed to come up with a second record that is interesting, full of great song writing and also easy to listen to. It’s defiantly not another clone but a great addition in the, almost overloaded, world of heavy metal
