Demonical - Servants Of The Unlight
‘A brutal and gruesome slash of old-school Swedish death metal darkness’, is the title of the biography supplied with the debut album of Demonical. I’ve never been a real big fan of that particular genre, but I sure do appreciate it every once in a while. Let’s see if Demonical has what it takes to join in the line of Swedish greats like Entombed, Grave and Dismember.

They fucking do! This band, formed by three ex-Centinex members, fits perfectly in a long line of amazing Swedish death metal bands. You just gotta love that crusty sound, especially the bass guitar of course. Demonical basically does the same thing as those bands mentioned in the intro above, but executes it with such precision and expertise that it doesn’t sound like just another copycat.

The music varies from the more grooving thrash riffs to the high speed brutal death metal blasting. The sound of the guitars and bass is quite clear and you can easily follow what is being played, while it still sounds like they only do it in Sweden. Fans of this genre certainly have to check Servants Of The Unlight out asap.

Time for a little metal-trivia. Drummer Ronnie Bergerstahl is also a live member of Grave, guitarist Johan Jansson plays in Interment and vocalist Lundvig is active in the grindcore band Remasculate. This only confirms the fact that some skilled and experienced musicians have delivered a great debut album. I hope to catch them on the road very soon.
