Slayer - World Painted Blood
No need to introduce these lads or their reputation. Slayer has been a dominant metal force since metal became really cool and they will remain so until they pull the plug. They have a new album, something nobody expected because usually they take five years to release a new one. World Painted Blood is the follow up to Christ Illusion. Let’s see what they did here.
Well, they did what they always fucking do, thrash like hell! Every album has the same ingredients, and if you like this fucking band you’ll fucking love it. Sorry that I have to use the word fuck so often but c’mon, it’s fucking Slayer! They still reign supreme in the extreme metal scene, and they prove it once more with World Painted Blood. Personally I like this new record way better than Christ Illusion, mainly due to one fact. And that fact is that the band went and wrote most of the material in the studio, which has resulted in an album that sounds very raw and ferocious instead of polished and brutal. It has way more spirit and authenticity, and I fucking adore it!
My personal highlight of this record is surely ‘Public Display Of Dismemberment’ where they go all out, or well, Dave Lombardo goes all out with some blastbeats, putting some death metal in their thrash. And that sort of shit just tickles my pickle because I fucking love Dave Lombardo thrashing a drumkit like I love free beer and titties! But there is more fun on this disc for the real Slayer fan, yet be it that there are also some lesser songs like ‘Human Strain’ and‘Americon’ that remind of the second wave of nu-metal bands (there was a second wave?). But the faster thrashers like ‘Psychopathy Red’ and the title track save the day, making this record a worthy addition to their impressive catalogue.
Conclusion? I still fucking love Slayer and their new fucking album that I will play until I know each and every note. And you will do the same, damn you!
