Killswitch Engage - Killswitch Engage
Killswitch Engage has been the band that gave Metalcore a chance to exist. And after releasing two full lengths through their label Roadrunner Records it is time to re-release their first effort which saw the light through Ferret Records. Because Roadrunner Records has signed a deal with this label they had the opportunity to do this. Together with their first demo their self titled effort will hit the stores once again. This time with new artwork and completely re-mastered by the magic hands of Adam Dutkiewicz.
Twoand a half years ago I bought the original version of this first album in Paris. So this re-release can be compared to the original version. First I will start of with the visuals of the album. The new artwork is a zoom of the old one with new colours. The backside has got a completely new layout and this one is much better because you can read the titles on the new version. The inlay is also great to look at, completely restyled and the line up in its old formation can be found.
Now let us listen to the different versions of this album. Well, when I listen to the production of the albums. After one tone you can hear the improvement on the re-release. Adam has done his magic on this one. The sound has become awesome. On the original version the sound was hollow, this doesn’t make it bad because it has its charms. But the sound quality of the re-release is just magnificent.
Two of the tracks which are on this album are also present on their first Roadrunner Records album ‘Alive Or Just Breathing’. These are ‘Vide Infra’ and ‘Temple From The Within’. The real Killswitch Engage fans who already has got this album will be amazed by the quality of the other Killswitch Engage tracks in their earlier stages.
Besides the original 9 tracks of this album the first demo of the album is included on this new release. These tracks are still in the original state and you can hear that even Killswitch Engage had to start at the beginning. The tracks are also on the later album of the band so you can compare the demo versions against the new re-release versions. It is pretty cool to hear the growing process of this band.
If you are a true fan, of course you have got the original version of this album. But I can assure you that you won’t be disappointed with this new version. For me the old one will always keep its charms, but the new release is one full grown album.
