Slayer - Eternal Pyre
On 6-6-06 we got a little taste of what the new Slayer record was going to offer us in the form of a one-track EP dubbed Eternal Pyre. Their first release since five years and also their first release with original drummer Dave Lombardo back behind the drumkit since Seasons In The Abyss.

The track contained on Eternal Pyre is baptized as “Cult” and it blows my brains out. It starts out relatively quiet, building up to the obvious mayhem to come. It contains a great Hatebreed like breakdown riff and three killer signature Slayer-solo’s.
But the most aggravating and infuriating asset of this song are the lyrics. Very anti-Christian like we are used to, but the refrain just kicks plain ass. It goes as follows:

Religion is hate
Religion is fear
Religion is war

Religion is rape
Religion is obscene
Religion’s a whore

All that, and Tom shouting I’ve made my choice, six six six and Jezus is pain, Jezus is gore and lots and lots of more things that make the average Christian have a spontaneous heart attack make this track alone more than a collectors item. People in the possession of this disc probably cannot wait until the day they run into the store and purchase Christ Illusion. Hail to the kings of extreme speed/thrash metal!!
