Mindless Self Indulgence - How I Learned To Stop Giving A Shit And Love Mindless Self Indulgence
Mindless Self Indulgence (MSI) found their way on my radar with their 2008 full length release If?, a very entertaining album with energetic electro punk and juvenile lyrics. How I Learned…is the follow up on this album.

Mindless Self Indulgence is an acquired taste. I can imagine that a lot of metalheads will turn away their heads in disdain after listening to some MSI songs. Personally I love the energy that they bring and the uptempo punk songs. Unfortunately on this album I don´t see any growth at all.

The album starts excellently with `Witness´, an uptempo rocker which finds its way to your brain rapidly. This got me excited immediately! To be subsequently disappointed with ´Fuck Machine´, a very mediocre track. The second song is symptomatic for the rest of the album. If? sounded fresh to my ears, but this is just a carbon copy of that album. No new roads are being travelled and they don’t enrich their sound in any possible way.

Of course there are some good tracks on this album, next to ‘Witness’, I also liked ‘Hey Tomorrow…’ and ‘I Want To Be Black’, but the majority is filler material. Concluding: a very boring album song writing wise and that’s really too bad.
