We Never Learned to Live - Self-Titled 12
We Never Learned to Live released three songs on a cassette in September 2013 after being together for only nine months. The tape is sold out and now available on a one side 12” with a screen print on the flip side. What we get is a new band that has written three outstanding songs on the cross point of Post Rock, Post Metal and Screamo.

In the UK bands always tend to start off in the right way with touring and directly releasing a bunch of good songs. ‘Afloat’ is the opening song of the party, slowly builds up and directly kicks in with typical post rock riffing and heavy screaming. We Never Learned to Live is doing nothing new, still the band has the right energy to not bore you to death. I also like the organic way how the drum sounds so in some way the band is touching my heart. That’s where is music all about isn’t it?

‘Crow’s Feet’ is moving in the same way with even in the middle typical punk-rock screaming and laidback melancholic guitar tones to find a new energy level later with melodies that remind of the good old times bands like Thursday or Thrice came around the scene.

Also in ‘Kepler’ vocalist Sean Mahon has a lot of frustrations to vent. The emotional level of his voice reminds me of Jeffrey Eaton on Modern Life is War’s My Love, My Way. This extra layer together with the basic and dry production gives the music extra body.

During the last 10 years the mixture of hardcore, screamo, post rock and post metal is done a thousand times; when done right it still has potential and place in everyone’s music collection. 300 copies are pressed on vinyl so give We Never Learned to Live a chance and discover the beauty of frustration wrapped into emotional music.
