Sick Of It All - Death to Tyrants

Sick of it all is a band that has been around for a while. With the new Death to Tyrants they celebrate their 20th year as a NYHC-cornerstone. "Let's celebrate that we don't give a fuck" is the chanting line in the first song. 20 years, but they don't kid around.

I bet every review has quoted the line I just did. But heck, that's the power of this record, a lot of sing-a-long parts that will do great at live shows. This 15 track record is a mixture of powerfull grooves and fast-paced oldschool. So, what's new? A kickass production! You have never heard such a professional sounding record by SOIA. It has not taken the raw (underground) feel off the record, but this is a record that is not JUST a reminder of the great show you saw or something to make you look forward to a good hardcore show. This is NYHC for the couch.

But then again, the sing-a-longs make this a party record. It's definitely stacked with songs that will raise the fists at the front of the stage. 'Die Alone' gave me goosebumps right from the start. With so much chanting vocals things have got to break. It really reminded me of Comeback Kid's latest album, which is filled with these kind of songs, but it's still in a SOIA-way. It still holds 20 years of strength.

Apart from these chanting vocals, another powerful SOIA thing is that the Lou's lyrics have a certain style that gives you the ability to give it your own meaning. Sort of like horoscopes. It works for everyone. Though this record is in a new style, extending what SOIA did on life on the ropes, it is drenched in SOIA-flavour.

Even after 20 years, Sick Of It All grows and brings us hard, heavy, screaming, blood boiling NYHC.
