Yearlist - Neurotic
2013 was an excellent year music wise. Learned quite some new bands and listened tos ome stellar releases. Below you can find my top 10, which is compiled out of albums which I bought in 2013. So there are some ommissions here that could have made my top 10, but I still have to order the albums (the new Jex Thoth and SubRosa for example).

Top 10 albums:
1.       Avatarium – S/T
This album really took me by surprise. I like what Leif has done with Candlemass (not a big fan) and Krux (some excellent releases), but nothing has made such a big impression as this debut. Love the vocals and the big, heavy riffs!
2.       Alter Bridge – Fortress
One of my favourite nowadays rock bands, so including Fortress was a no brainer. Nevertheless the guys surprised me by coming up with such a heavy album! Glad that they redeem themselves after the okay, but not stellar AB III.
3.       In Vain – Aenigma
Again a surprise! Released in the first half of 2013, it’s still a release that I revisit on a regular basis. Already picked up an older album, which is also good, but not of the level of Aenigma.
4.       Hatebreed – The Divinity Of Purpose
Haven’t seen this one popping up on a lot end of yearlist, which could be because they don’t tread any new water on this album. Nevertheless I massively enjoyed myself with this album. Hatebreed is my favourite hardcore band and with The Divinity Of Purpose they cemented themselves a little sturdier at the number one spot.
5.       Amorphis – Circle
Again a story of redeeming, Beginning Of Times was a tad boring, but Amorphis came back to form on this release. Excellent atmospheric Melodeath!
6.       Bliksem – Face The Evil
An album that really came to life after witnessing a live performance of the band at The Duycker in Hoofddorp. And of course as a thrash metal fanatic, I can’t fill in a list with at least one thrash album on it!
7.       Hypocrisy – End Of Disclosure
Somehow Hypocrisy has always flown under my Melodeath radar, but with End Of Disclosure they catapult their way into the picture. An underrated album, since I didn’t see it on a lot of lists on the internet.
8.       Black Sabbath – 13
There’s quite some criticism on this album. That it sounds too much like older albums etc. etc. Well, what do you expect of Sabbath, that they come out with a totally different kind of sound? I haven’t heard an Ozzy as good as on this album and I enjoyed it a lot!
9.       Avenged Sevenfold – Hail The King
Also a much criticized album, because they stole all kinds of bits and pieces from songs from other acts. While that’s true of course, it didn’t irritate me one bit. Great album for in the car!
10.   The Editors – The Weight Of Your Love
A testimony that I don’t listen to a lot of 3FM radio (a Dutch wannabe alternative station), since I didn’t hear any song of them up until this year. Loved this album so much I picked up some of their back catalogue also.

Ask me again somewhere next month or even next week and I could come up with a different top 10, so many great albums were released this year. Some honorable mentions: Spiritual Beggars – Earth Blues, Prowler – After You, Sodom – Epitome Of Torture, The Dillinger Escape Plan – One Of Us Is The Killer among many many others.

Top 5 gigs:
1.       Rammstein – Fortarock
2.       Rival Sons – Patronaat
3.       System Of A Down – Ziggo Dome
4.       Muse – Arena
5.       Lana Del Rey - HMH
