Misery Index - Discordia
One of my personal favourites if it comes to death metal, this band has already been making noise in my ears for quite some hours now. They’ve come to a unique combination of styles with death metal as foundation, that appeals to me like few other bands manage to do. So let’s see what they bring us after last year’s Dissent EP.

The album continues on the same path as the other did, grooving death metal with elements of hardcore, thrash metal and punk entangled throughout the songs. So that stands for fast thrashing parts, old-skool hardcore moshbeats and those all too familiar breakdowns, things that just tickle my asshole.
It takes the average listener some time to get a hold on these brutal high speed tracks, but after five listening sessions you have a good impression about the noise these guys from Baltimore produce.

The new additions in the line-up haven’t had a great impact on the way the band sounds, which is not a bad thing at all. Drummer Adam Jarvis certainly packs the same ferocity, diversity and speed that Kevin Talley has showed us over the years and makes it sound like a natural switch between drummers. New guitarist Mark Kloeppel seems to have the same feeling for songwriting as the two people that form the axis for this band, he even got to write some of the new material heard on Discordia. He has also taken over the heavier vocal duties, although they're not as present as the hardcore screams.
Lyrically we are still informed about our rotten society, which I still prefer over talk of rape, poo and other ridiculous subjects. Anyone familiar with this band knows what they talk about. If you’re not one of them, take a look at the song-titles.

Well I’m not going to waste more time on convincing you that this is again a killer album by a killer band. If you liked the previous material, you surely will love Discordia. If you never heard of them at all and you feel like you could work with the music I described above, definitely give this one a try, you won’t regret it.
