Skindred, Dead Letter Circus - Party On Dude!
Ever since my encounter with Skindred at the Sziget Festival in Hungary I kept track of these guys. Not many bands are capable of throwing a party like they do. So when I heard they would play at the local 013 venue on a Saturday night the outcome was quite simple. I had to be there. Not many bands are able to draw out a very diverse crowd that consist of completely different types of music lovers. This is both a blessing and a curse for Skindred. Of course your music may speak to a lot of people but on the other hand the music could easily also reject the people since it’s very diverse. It results in a rather strange combination of people inside the 013 on this particular night. The fact that de DJ is mixing Pantera and Slipknot with Faith No More and Sting (!?) is not really helping either.

Before the party could really start we had to watch Dead Letter Circus first. I can be very quick about this one. Nu Metal attitude, painted faces and really bad performance. Lose the Jugaloo make-up and focus on playing the music in stead of commandeering the audience.

When Benji Webbe entered the stage with a officer’s hat, leather jacket, silk shirts and silk pants. I wondered quickly why he would do that. But after seconds it’s pretty obvious the man can do anything onstage. If had taken a shit onstage it probably would still be funny. After the Imperial March they started with ‘Ninja’ and the party was on. People moshing, jumping around crowdsurfing etc. It was the first time in my entire life that I watch the entire floor jump up and down from left to right for practically the entire set. With Webbe as ringleader the band played pretty tight and had even some room onstage for goofing around which contributed even more to the vibe that was already present. Great show, great party but a little sad in lasted for only one hour.
