Various Artists - Gigantour
Since Kiss discovered  that during the summer holiday a lot of kids in America had nothing to do and were willing to spend money to see a few bands play, a lot of bands created their own version of a travelling metal festival. Of course Ozzy has his Ozzfest and Korn has it’s Family Values Tour. Well nowadays Dave Mustaine from Megadeth can add himself to that list with his own Gigantour.

With bands like Nevermore, Fear Factory, Life Of Agony, Megadeth and Dream Theater it’s quite an interesting line up for a metal festival. You can say Dave Mustaine knows what he’s doing considering the fact that this tour was the first edition of the Gigantour. Sadly enough all those great names aren’t that great when you listen to the recordings that were made for this live album.

Some great performances came from Dream Theater with ‘Panic Attack’ and ‘The Glass Prison’, Nevermore with ‘Born’ and ‘Enemies Of Reality’ and of course Megadeth with ‘She-Wolf’, ‘A Tout Le Monde’ and ‘Kick The Chair’. But in contrast to this great recordings are the songs of Life Of Agony, Anthrax and Fear Factory that are, nicely said, not great at all.

The other problem I have with this album is that it never sounds spontaneously. Half of the time I have the idea I’m listening to some band that doesn’t give a fuck about what the audience think of it, as long as they'll get paid at the end of the evening.

At the end of the ride I can conclude that a great band is not always a certainty for great live recordings and considering the fact that Gigantour didn’t even came to Europe in the past couple of years this album is probably just a way to make some money out of the European fans.
